Category: Agency Basics
The basics of Agency is in two parts. The first is the Agent. Most think of sports agents or FBI agents which are empowered to act on behalf of their client or the federal government respectively. Looking up the definition via Google I find another definition ranked #1 which is relevant: “one that acts or exerts power”. An Agent acts and exerts power. Agency from a psychology perspective is “the feeling of control over actions and their consequences”. The Agent for Agency is the concept of exerting power to improve our feeling of control over actions within our environment. The concept of Agency and the many facets we all experience forms our individual sense of Agency.
Since this is a blog, I am blending concepts from multiple sources to form what I am proposing. We all have an obligation to act and exert intentionality over our actions and their consequences. The basics of Agency requires improving our agency over using Time, Ability, Wealth, and Tribe.
